To reduce plastic pollution in our oceans

Marine pollution is now a global problem. Various factors have been cited, such as pollutants coming from land, the destruction of ecosystems due to drilling for undersea resources, and the development of coastal areas.

Plastic pollution is one of the fastest-growing global environmental problems.

The problem of microplastics, which studies show can enter the bodies of fish, has become widely recognized, but one of the biggest threats to the health of our marine ecosystem is fishing nets that are lost or abandoned.

Ghost gear discharged in large quantities remains in the ocean without decomposition forever, causing damage to sea turtles, fish, seabirds and various marine life.

Bureo®, a company based in Oxnard, California, and Talcahuano, Chile, in South America, is working to address this problem by creating a positive solution for end-of-life fishing nets. They work directly with fishing communities around the world to collect, sort, clean, shred, and recycle discarded fishing nets into NetPlus® material, a 100% post-consumer recycled alternative to virgin plastics.

By using NetPlus® material to make our jackets, pants and other various items, Ron Herman is helping reduce the harmful impact of fishing net waste on our oceans while supporting Bureo’s positive and impactful initiatives.
So far, Bureo has collected over 10 million pounds of discarded fishing nets. Learn more about Bureo’s process and impact at bureo.co.
